Chapter #153 of the American Payroll Association has been created in the Upstate of South Carolina.  The chapter will serve the areas of Greenville, Spartanburg, and Anderson as well as the other surrounding counties and cities.

    The chapter got its start when a small group of payroll professionals decided it was time to provide continuing education and networking opportunities for payroll and human resource professionals in the area.
    In the future the group hopes to offer study groups for those who would like to sit for the CPP and FPC exams as well as get involved in the community.

      Benefits Specialist
      Primary Role:
      To administer the outgoing employee process as it relates to retirement, death, disability and separation of
      employment.

      Qualifications:
      The person in this position should have the following credentials:
      1) High school diploma and three years’ experience in employee benefits administration or any equivalent
      combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
      2) Ability to communicate orally, in writing and interpret insurance terminology.
      3) Must be able to work independently and as a team member with limited discretion.
      4) Attention to detail in completing tasks such as insurance and retirement forms.
      5) Competent in using computer software, MS Office. Working knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
      operating systems; Infor/Lawson preferred.
      6) Licensed Notary Public

      Performance Responsibilities:
      1) Supports compliance with the District/PEBA operating procedures and related statutory requirements.
      2) Provide courteous, responsive service to employee phone call/email inquiries and visitors to the Central
      Office; discuss/research/resolve employee benefit questions, assist with qualifying events and general payroll
      concerns.
      3) Serve as agent for the Benefits Call Center.
      4) Assist claimants/beneficiaries with all death claims; respond to beneficiaries, complete/process forms, set‐up
      files and monitor claim status.
      5) Assist/counsel/respond to disability application requests; counsel employees regarding disability claims;
      complete/process forms, set‐up files and monitor claim status.
      6) Process terminations; complete PEBA termination process through online system (EBS) or active termination
      process; process applicable COBRA requirements and insurance conversion notifications; verify terminations
      according to PEBA “Terminated Subscriber Listing” report.
      7) Serve in a back‐up role for counseling/assisting employees regarding retirement and insurance eligibility to
      include forms; Active Termination, Notice of Election, Life Insurance conversion, etc.
      8) Manage employees on leave without pay (Medical (FMLA), Parental, Workers’ Compensation): receive
      insurance payments, reconcile year to date deductions, ensure coverage is active and deductions are current;
      terminate coverage for non‐payment.
      9) Serve in a primary role for all Ending TERI transactions until program ends on 06/30/2018.
      10) Complete assigned district system generated exception reports, Smartnotes, etc.
      11) Provide required monthly work activity (productivity) statistics for assigned duties.
      12) Secure and maintain confidentiality of all sensitive, personal employee data; social security numbers, pay
      rates, etc.
      13) Perform other related duties as may be required or assigned by immediate supervisor.

      Terms of Employment: Twelve Months with salary Schedule SPPTAN245, Group G.

      Payroll Positions Available:

      Qualifications

      • 4-5 Years of High Volume Payroll
      • Knowledge of payroll principles and practices
      • Computer literate and proficient in MS -Office, especially Excel and Word
      • Accurate data entry skill
      • Demonstrated organizational skills

      Job Duties and Responsibilities

      • Provides superior customer service to all employees
      • Preparation of payroll data for assigned territory; includes approving payroll changes, new hires, terminations, W-4 changes, direct deposit and pay card changes
      • Opens/Processes/Closes payrolls within the Human Resources computer system(s)
      • Prepares and distributes payroll reports/exports/funding, runs GL reports at month end, and calls in NACHA file to bank if Payroll Manager and Lead Payroll Administrator are unavailable.
      • Researches and prepares special reports for management and other personnel
      • Performs calculation of monthly bonus using computerized systems and manual spreadsheets
      • Tests computer systems and upgrades to ensure payroll is processed correctly
      • Review timecards for accuracy for assigned territory
      • Run GL and prepare journal entries for any necessary branch expense changes
      • Trains other payroll personnel
      • Prompt and regular attendance is required

      Job Title: Lead Payroll Administrator
      Qualifications:
      The person in this position should have the following credentials:
      1. College degree and two years experience in payroll administration or any equivalent combination of education
      and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. CPP or FPC designation strongly
      desired. State of South Carolina Notary Public designation recommended.
      2. Ability to communicate verbally, in writing and interpret and payroll terminology.
      3. Attention to detail in completing tasks
      4. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
      5. Knowledge of Personal Computer operations, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and payroll systems (ERP,
      Time & Attendance)
      Terms of Employment:
      Twelve Months, Support/Annual Schedule, Group C. Salary Range effective 7/1/17: $41,947 ‐ $55,206

      HCM Specialist (Human Capital Management)

      Primary Position Summary: Performance Payroll is looking for a professional to handle our clients in a fun, fast paced, dynamic environment. The HCM Specialist will normally handle a portfolio of clients, assisting with questions relating to their payroll, tax and HR services
      Key Result Areas:
      Specialist must be comfortable and proactive in reaching out to clients via phone and
      email to resolve payroll and tax issues. (If you are paralyzed by a ringing phone this may not be the job for you.)
      Representative must demonstrate ability to respond to client questions in a timely
      manner.
      Representative should strive to provide a positive customer experience throughout the
      entire payroll process.
      Maintaining a high rate of client retention through quality service.
      Education / Training / Certifications:
      Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) preferred.
      BA/BS degree is preferred with a track record of proven customer service skills.
      Great communication skills are a must.
      Comfortable with business software is important.
